The other day a woman helped me put a couple of shopping carts away in a store parking lot. She said it was the least she could do for someone who took the time to put a cart away. You see she was an employee of the store I had just left and she often gets stuck with the job of rounding up the carts at the end of her shift. Now that was a nice thing to do and I really appreciated the kind gesture. It gave my day a little lift.

I was impressed as I recently listened to a gentleman in church recount his experience with receiving a kidney from his brother-in-law. What an extraordinary gift of love and sacrifice! My own brother-in-law experienced the same selfless gift of a kidney from his own brother.

We often hear of extraordinary acts of kindness. I would like to suggest that we don’t need to give a kidney to show kindness, but we can do something kind for someone every day. We can let someone in front of us while driving, we can compliment a stranger, we can tuck a love note in someone’s lunch, we can make an uplifting phone call. The list is endless.

Today and every day make a conscious decision to be aware of opportunities to be kind.

The song “I Will Never Pass This Way Again” expresses this sentiment beautifully.

I'll give my hand to those who cannot see,
The sunshine or the fallin' rain.

I'll sing my song to cheer the weary along,
For I may never pass this way again!

I'll share my faith with every troubled heart,
So I shall not have lived in vain.

I'll give my hand, I'll sing my song,
I'll share my faith, because I know,
That the time is now to fulfill each vow,
For I may never pass this way again!

"LAUGH" sign

We don’t have to give up a kidney, but today, tomorrow and every day still to come we can give a smile, a hug or a laugh.

I had such fun crafting this “LAUGH” sign from paper machier letters purchased from Hobby Lobby and scrapbook paper and embellishments.

I would love to hear about your daily acts of kindness given and received, especially those received from people you don’t know.
